Would you like to incorporate the Fine and Performing Arts into your child’s school day?

 

Let your child(ren) dive into the arts alongside our elementary school students in our Homeschool Arts and Play program. This program provides students the opportunity to study the arts and have lunch and recess with their friends. Your children will jump for joy as they study Music, Dance, Theatre, and/or Visual Art and build great relationships at Providence School of Arts.

Dance

This program is designed to develop well-rounded young dancers. Students progress through the level-based classical ballet curriculum, enriched by several other dance techniques to include modern, tap, character, and West African. Young dancers will acquire a solid dance foundation as they learn skills such as body awareness, proper technique, artistry, musicality, and expression.

Primary (Ages 5-7)

Students in this level will be introduced to the basic structure of ballet and will learn basic dance terminology. Students will also develop proper technique and coordination for motor skills to include skipping, jumping, and leaping. All classes will be concluded with an imaginative exercise where students will further develop their performance and choreographic skills.

Intermediate (Ages 7-10)

Students in this level will be introduced to the ballet barre. Students will continue to increase their ballet vocabulary as well as develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and proper placement. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to develop their movement vocabulary through the study of Jazz dance.

Monday's 11:30- 1:15p and/or Thursday's 11:30-1:00p

Music

Music is an innate part of human culture and all children have the capacity for music making. Students will explore and gain an understanding of musical concepts by singing, playing instruments, creating and listening to music. Concepts will be presented using a sequential approach based on the elements of music, including rhythm, melody, harmony, form and expression.

Primary (Ages 5-7)

Students in this class will learn to perform, create and describe music from all over the world and a wide variety of genres throughout history. Students will acquire skills in music literacy, and develop the ability to communicate and express themselves through music, both of which lay a foundation for a lifetime of musicality.

Students in this level will find more learn to perform, create and describe music from all over the world and a wide variety of genres throughout history. Students will acquire skills in music literacy, and develop the ability to communicate and express themselves through music, both of which lay a foundation for a lifetime of musicality.

Theater

Children naturally have the fundamental skills of playwrights, actors, designers, directors, and audience members. The theatre curriculum builds upon this intuitive creativity by incorporating essential skills into this natural form of play. Students will explore and develop the ability to improvise, create scripts, act, design, direct, research and plan, analyze and critique, and understand context. Teachers will actively guide students through the planning, performance, and evaluating process.

Primary (Ages 5-7)

Students will learn the basis of theatre performance by exploring the actors toolbox of voice, body, imagination, concentration, and cooperation. Students will play theatre and improvisation games that will hone and stretch their ability to imagine, move and create. Students will learn how to create their own characters, build their own stories and how to act them out.

Visual Arts

Students will receive sequential experiences in art history, criticism, aesthetics, and production. Students will gain an appreciation of art through the meaningful integration of art with other subject matter. Most importantly, they will begin learning to express their own thought and creativity through various art forms.

Primary (Ages 5-7)

The Visual Arts curriculum offers students exposure to a wide array of forms ranging from drawing, painting, sculpture, and design to architecture, film, video, and folk arts. Students will explore and gain an understanding of artistic elements of line, form, color, texture, shape, space, and value. Students will develop the ability to create and describe art that represents various cultures and genres.
